Competition Format

Iowa Games Youth Soccer offers Recreational and Select divisions.

Round robin play. Semi-final, consolation and championship games will be the same length as preliminary games.

NOTE: Not all divisions/subdivisions will playoff for medals. Some medals will be awarded based on the results of bracket play.  The Iowa Games reserves the right to combine divisions, alter field/goal sizes if need be.

6U & 8U will be played as a jamboree format.  No scores or standings will be kept.

All divisions offered are female and coed.

Divisions will be the following:

6U | 4 v 4 on field | No Keeper | Max roster 6 | 4 – 8 minute quarters | Size 3 ball | Goal 4 x 6
8U | 4 v 4 on field | No Keeper | Max roster 8 | 4 – 8 minute quarters | Size 3 ball | Goal 4 x 6
9U or 10U | 7  v 7 on field | Goalkeeper | Max roster 13 | 20 minute halves | Size 4 ball | Goal 6.5 x 18
11U or 12U | 9 v 9 on field | Goalkeeper | Max roster 16 | 25 minute halves | Size 4 ball | Goal 6.5 x 18
13U or 14U | 11 v 11 on field | Goalkeeper | Max roster 18 | 25 minute halves | Size 5 ball | Goal 8 x 24
13U or 14U | 6 v 6 on field | Goalkeeper | Max roster 10 | 25 minute halves | Size 5 ball | Goal 8 x 24
16U | 11 v 11 on field | Goalkeeper | Max roster 18 | 30 minute halves | Size 5 ball | Goal 8 x 24

Referee Requirements

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and overall national shortage of referees, we strongly encourage teams to submit at least one referee. All referees are paid. If you know of anyone interested in referring, please click HERE and sign up (link will be posted March 1). This will allow us to gather your availability for scheduling purposes. Once a schedule is complete, the Soccer Commissioner will be contacting you regarding your assigned games. Please keep in mind, all paid soccer officials are covered by Iowa Games insurance.

Age Determining Date (Updated 3/20/2025)

Iowa Soccer is following a birth year matrix for the 2025-2026 season. Easiest way to determine what division you need to play in is by the birth YEAR of the oldest child on your team.
